TPS - throttle position sensor (setting procedure)

1. Ensure the gear selected is NEUTRAL.

2. With headlights, air-conditioner, and other accessories switched off, engine should be run to full operating temperature.

3. Switch ignition 'OFF'.

4. Release accelerator cable tension by loosening the 14mm adjusting nuts,

5. Loosen the 2 mounting screws on the Throttle Position Sensor. (Don't remove them!)

(The Throttle Position Sensor voltage can be measured by leaving its plug connected, insert the multimeter probes into the holes in the rubber and firmly make contact with the terminals inside, use terminals 1 & 2, shown below) 

6. Insert Multimeter probes (instructions directly above).

7. Turn ignition to 'ON'

8. After 15 seconds, check voltage is between 0.45 & 0.51 volts.

9. If voltage is incorrect, make adjustment by rotating the TPS housing clockwise or anti-clockwise until satisfactory reading is obtained. (0.45 - 0.49v)

10. Firmly fasten the 2 mounting screws again.

11. Turn ignition 'OFF'. Turn ignition 'ON', and wait over 15 seconds and then switch ignition 'OFF' again.

12. Disconnect the Idle Speed Controller plug.

13. START the engine. If necessary, adjust the screw on the throttle lever to reach approximately 850rpm.

14. Turn ignition 'OFF'.

15. Turn ignition 'ON'

16. Check that the voltage of the TPS is between 0.45 & 0.51 volts, adjust if necessary.

17. Open the throttle completely, and slowly release to return it to it's relaxed position.

18. Check TPS voltage again, and if necessary, make adjustments.

19. Turn ignition 'OFF'

20. Connect the ISC plug and remove the multimeter from the TPS plug. Re-adjust accelerator cable tension.

21. START engine. Check that idle is approximately 850rpm. Turn ignition 'OFF'.

22. Disconnect battery for more than 6 seconds, and reconnect.
