I finally got my hands on a 2 piece VR4 driveshaft, in the first pic you can see that the VR4 shaft is 20mm longer than the standard cordia:
first pic:
The second pictures show the intermediate shaft in the cordia box, yes it does fit but it needs to be installed BEFORE the box is attached to the engine...............might have to take it out again.
Need to do some reasearch to find a smaller shaft without getting one made.

This thing will decimate all.......once I've put another fifteen grand into it!
Yeah, i'll definately will be looking into this conversion in future...
_______________________________

I'm going to need this conversion with the 2.3............keep you all posted.
I've hit a snag..........the shaft I used was a 22 spline were the cordia is 25 spline............thought I could use the 22 spline tripod trunnion in the VR4 housing...........not to be, the 22 spline joint is 33mm where the VR4 one is 35mm...............back to the drawing board.
Desperately need a drivers side cordia shaft!
heh.. ive got heaps... not much use to you atm tho unless you wanna drive 6 hrs to go get it

I have a TS Magna shaft you can have. Its 25 spline but I'm unsure of the length compared to a Cordia one.
Grumbly from Cordiapower has given me a cordia driveshaft and I bought his custom made shaft. Just hit another snag it's 25 spline and 27mm where the VR4 is 24mm, best bit is the cordia shaft is the right length.
Next step is to talk to Hardie Spicer to get the cordia shaft turned down to suit the VR4 trunnion.
Next clearence problem is the sump, as from the pics i've dummied up on my old 2.0 litre you can see the driveshaft isnt square and runs offline.........this will require some massaging of the sump.
The conversion is getting there now......just need to modifiy the sump to suit.
I now have 2 shafts to make as Grumbly supplied another intermediate shaft.........so if anybody is interested once I've finished it will be the only one available.
dibs.. hehe... i'm kinda suprised your not gonna keep the second one as a spare given the power your hoping to put thru it... i also like the term massaging.. you make it sound like your going to be gentle
Thanks Jamie.........personally I thought this thread would have more interest................as for the sump clearence I will be gentle, the sump has to be recess quite a way for the driveshaft to clear........nothing oxy won't fix and a light tap with a hammer.
I will make a spare just in case, if not required then it will be available.
Brad was interested in this conversion.
I am interested also, however if gains are minimal I wont bother. I can’t wait to hear how it performs.
Keep us updated Andrew

Thanks for that, I REALLY need to talk to the guys at hardie spicer, I have certain ratios I can use:
- Respline the cordia shaft to suit a 25 spline VR4 Trunnion.
- Use a Colt/lancer shaft and find a 22 spline Trunnion that is the right size to suit the VR4 housing.
- Shorten the VR4 shaft by 20mm
- Get Davids shaft hardened and use that.
I've had a look at 3000GT it runs the same spline as the cordia, but not sure if it runs a tri-Trunnion joint, (can anybody help me) if it does i'll have this completed, But I really want to use available parts.......that way there is no great expense. I'll keep you posted.
Just out of interest, the 4wd Tredia and Cordia used a centre bearing on the LH driveshaft side but good luck finding one of those setups.
If the 3000gt shaft is the right length and size and spline, you should be able to use it even if it doesn't have a tripod joint. You would just have to remove whatever type of joint is on there and fit a tripod joint.
I did this with a Cordia driveshaft. I removed the inner double offset joint and fitted a tripod joint from a TS Magna to the Cordia shaft.
Coop1er, is the TS magna the same size as the VR4 trunnion and housing? If it is that would be fantastic.......no need for machining.
I couldn't say for sure. I do have a RH Cordia driveshaft fitted with an inner cv joint from a TS that you could try if you like, though I would need it back.
haha.. i'm suprised there isnt more interest aswell... torque steer can be very violent espicially if it catches you by surprise... anything that reduces that is fine by me.. i'm prepared to get one made when the time comes... but if there is a solution that uses existing parts thats even better
equal length drive shafts and an lsd could make for a very nice drive indeed... still, i have to stick by the fact fwd sux lol!
out of curiosity Andy, how much would it cost to get custom shafts made up?

Token Italian and all round bastard...
I purchased Grumbly's from CordiaPower.............cost him over $300, I have found that the cordia and the Colt are the same length...........just different spline and thickness.
Jamie..........that's what I'm trying to achieve.........that way no massive out of pocket expense is experienced..........just mine for trying to get it right!
We will see.
You may have to rename that car Blitza rTHER than bitza once you have completed all this.

Damn Red Truck
i was quoted (ball park) $200 from the guy i was talking to im melb to get one made
the other thing with the TR/TS (and maype later ones too) is i think they're diffent between the V6 and the 4cyl.
I also think there's a lot of interst here, but there not go spaming your thred with stuff, and things not worth saying, just for the sake of saying it.
there will be alot of inter est if there is a noticable diffence!

I'm sure that there is something out there that will do the trick without any need for machining. I saw a Sonata tripod joint the other day that was definately smaller than the Magna one. Why don't you try a bearing place to see if they can supply something of the correct dimensions.
This is the problem I am having............all the shafts are different width's and spline counts........yes the sonata one may be smaller than the magna but what shaft will it fit...........25mm, 27mm, 24mm etc
I'm starting to realise a driveshaft shop is my only hope for keeping this conversion "factory".
looking at all this do you think it would be posible to put TS magna CV's on standed cordia shafts?
TS Magna CV's will fit the cordia shaft...........only problem is they are a little larger..........besides, I will be refitting the original cordia CV...........why would I want a magna one?
i wont them because there bigger, thus would be able to take more torque. and a CV place would proply know what a TS Magna is, thus would be more avlaible

I think Grumbly from Cordiapower had one made up that he was trying to sell. It only needed heat treating or something.
