I have a smoothed stock intake manifold from a turbo 4g63 that I was considering having powdercoated then throwing on but is anyone running an aftermarket intake manifold? Im wondering what will fit and how much space there is with one. If you have one please put up a picture!

Thank
Rich

thanks for the worthless reply.

Maybe I would rather take the word of the people on this forum than random internet idiots. So next time keep this kind of useless post to yourself NEWB! I want to be sure before spending 300-800 dollars on an intake manifold.

By the way the site you posted is an actual IT NETWORK site

Here is my JMF inlet manifold.............It won't fit the cordia as it sits too low and fouls everything. I will get it modified to have the runners on the bottom instead of the side. This will allow the plenum chamber to be lifted into a workable position.

At the moment i'm running the Cyclone manifold with the butterflies removed.

ah yeah see I had debated on the JMF since theres actually a lot of those around thanks to the local DSM guys. So thats very good to hear. Right now im just using the standard DSM one. But I was going to clean up some of it. The spare im working on thats already shaved would look good powdercoated but I wouldnt mind a bit more power and figured I might save myself the money of powdercoating if I decide to go with an aftermarket manifold.

Why powdercoat it?...................there are alot of good quality heatproof paints around..........might look better.............heres mine.

Powdercoating is more durable than paints and provides a smoother look and is more tolerant of cleaners such as degreasers. Plus its only 50 bux to coat it but figured I might save myself some trouble.

Thats what I have. I have one smoothed down that I was going to get powdercoated but was wondering what aftermarket manifolds fit our cars. Im kind of wondering just how fast I can get a 14b turbo car to go

He just does not get it, there are several categories of preformance car. And lots of people take parts from each. A little bit of show car with a bit of race car with a dash of audio.
We cant all be like him with all our mods being done for top speed. His car might be fast but it looks like crap. CordiaDOHC powder coat you manifold I know you want it to look good and go well.

His car isnt even fast. lol But yeah I want it to look good and roll out nicely. Its all about balance. If I wanted a race car I would build a RWD car. Aussie Babsy thanks for the link. Will be checking it out. It looks like the problem with the aftermarket manifolds is going to be firewall clearance but Im defintely going to look into this.

yeah right now after reading some of it I might have a local place who im friends with do some good porting on the stock manifold and throw on a bigger throttle body. Seems like it might be much cheaper plus cleaner looking than a more race designed manifold. Though was shocked that the JMF drag manifold needed work to meet its expectations!

Is that because the JMF is for the VR4 engine bay?

Yes, it fit's Talons in the US which have BIGGER engine bays............not good for the stout cordia..............I'm working on it!
Have found a business here in Adelaide.........if it turns out right I just might get some made.

i dont see how better fuel economy and greater reliability (if your not pushing the envelope to much) is double the trouble of a singlecam

the DOHC engines parts availability is much better here state side as well as how many aftermarket parts are here for it. So all in all its a much better for me to go. Plus anytime you can get more air into the motor is a good thing!

Hey you might laugh at this, but i put my intake manifold in the dishwasher, turned out mint. (mines the cyclone one, took it completely apart first)

First remove the throttle body then give the manifold a good old degrease, rinse it off, put it through the dishwasher, rinse when you pull it out (you will notice lots of black comes of when rinsing, say like if you polish it with autosol). The aluminium will look new, paint the logo and done :)

Must be something in the dishwasher powder that cleans aluminium really well? I have also done this with other bits hehe, so far no negative effects

Loving the velocity stacks inside the manifold. How much did that set you back?

Do you run the NA throttle body as well? Does it make a big power difference going from the cyclone intake to the NA galant one?

JohnT: I will be running an NA TB also. I can't compare the two because i haven't driven the car for like 3 yrs..
I was told the NA intake should flow more air even compared to the cyclone with the butterflies open. plus slightly bigger TB.
my mate is doing the work for me, i'll take his word for it..

Tim, from what I have heard, Jayrome is right on the money, although the standard Cyclone manifold is still good for 300 wheel kilowatts...
