This thread will contain famous Cordias, including magazine articles etc etc.
I just finished typing up (word for word) the full story on the LYNMYUP Cordia which featured in the October 2007 edition of Hot4s. (Will get pics up ASAP).
Enjoy!!
Cordias have somehow lost pole position on the list of the perfect first car. With any luck, this purple marvel should have kids scouting the depths of caryards for one of Mitsubishi’s most popular rides ever built.
If you spend enough time on the internet, in budget caryards or perhaps a junkyard, you’ll be able to pick up a 1984 Mitsubishi Cordia for no less than two bills ($2000 if you’ve been living under a rock, the real question is, what’s it like under there?).
The reason the Cordia has lost a little popularity is probably due to the massive drop in retail for S13s and FCs, where an extreme amount of horses is achievable with half the effort. So, why did 25-year-old Sydney native George Ladkany opt for the Cordia knowing that cred’ and power were only a few more notes away?
“I purchased this car in 2001 after my first Cordia was stolen, because I wanted to finish doing it up”, George says. “I paid $4500 and it was in average condition.” So, unfinished business was the motive and perfection is the result. When you’re representing a veteran ride like the Cordia with the responsibility to restore its name back to celebrity status, flawlessness is your only option. George achieves just that with a custom candy purple respray and a candy orange airbrushed artwork of the underworld kind.
Scary, we’d prefer to call it aggressive. Pirates used to paint skulls on their flags to represent death and terror to whoever they chose to torment. In George’s case, his skeleton themed rear-end promotes caution to anyone thinking those 18in Vault Krystals are any indication of the Cordia’s performance.
A 2.0L port and polished, EMS administered 4G63 from a VR4 Galant replaced the old 1.8L mill from the Cordia’s previous life as a shopping cart, or possibly even as your Grandad’s attempt at reliving his misspent youth. Whatever the Cordia used to be, we’re pretty sure it won’t be looking back any time soon, especially with a T04 turbo strapped to it’s custom exhaust manifold.
As a matter of fact, the whole engine bay has been detailed in unison with the paint theme of the Cordia to provide the car with extra show kudos.
So, is it angry? How does 300hp at the wheels sound? Intimidating, we know. Of course, like any outrageous modifier with at least a quarter of his brain intact, you’re generally aware of what’s involved in getting your car’s performance to rub shoulders with the big boys.
A colossal custom intercooler spearheads the Cordia’s campaign for modifier’s glory, while a 3in turbo-back exhaust and high-flow cat provide a deep note that would put Pavarotti to shame.
Weighing in at only one tonne, the Cordia would definitely reign in its weight class. It would also offer George the ability to sling his ride around the track with ease, and that’s thanks to Koni adjustable shocks matched with 3.5in-lowered Whiteline springs and swaybars to sharpen handling.
The only thing George would have had trouble getting used to would be the Exedy brass-button clutch that he chose to work with. Anyone familiar with aftermarket brass-button clutches would agree that your left leg would end up three sizes bigger than your right. If you also use your left leg to jump with, then we predict an increase of four. Please keep in mind that physio-related advice given by Hot4s staff should never replace the guidance of an educated medical practitioner.
Now that we’ve cleared that legal hurdle, let’s dive into the Cordia’s specific body mods. George tried to keep the exterior as symmetrical and clean as possible without having to shave anything off. So, the guards were discretely lipped while the aerial, locks and wipers were removed. And if you’re thinking, ‘Where have I seen that bonnet before?’, well the vents came from an Evo VI.
Here’s where the fun in modifying pre-1985 vehicles really comes to life. For you see, there’s only so much you can do to the car’s silhouette, but inside is where the transformation is more noticeable. If George’s passengers were blindfolded to hide the Cordia’s identity, then thrown inside where they’ll be permitted to see again, there’s virtually no way of telling that they’re in a 23-year-old car – well, apart from the edgy design of the dash that became really popular right after the ‘70s for some reason.
A purple and white re-trim was chosen to dictate the interior aura. As for the overall layout, the design works really well: Purple took care of the accents, which gives the white shad more real estate to pose. This basically suggests that people would rather call it a white interior than they’d call it purple.
Quite frankly, this particular type of trim is flawless. Then again, it was the legendary Master Auto Trim that worked on the Cordia’s interior from its conceptual design to where it is today – genius. Naturally, a reliable array of Auto Meter instruments and Momo accessories garnish the interior perfectly. You then have your heavyweight brands making their compulsory appearance such as HKS’s turbo timer and EMS’s hand controller embedded comfortably in the centre console. And who can look past Pioneer’s 7in DVD/TV unit allowing George to crank up two 12in MTX subs and a set of front and rear 6.5in splits all powered by an MTX monoblock and competition amp.
George said it took him two years and $50,000 to get the Cordia back to auto-idol ranks. The thing is, George still remains positive that a new interior, a bigger set of wheels and an even bigger turbo and engine set-up will suffice the itch that’s been bothering him for the past couple of months.
Well, George, you’ve got our support and we’re pretty sure you guys out there have got his back too.

looks awsome.... don't really agree with the bonnet though, needs to be squarer in my opinion! like Bitza! 8)
But, beautiful car still.... I'm very jealous!

Cheers, that's the only reason I bought the magazine. Was lucky to find it too.
Was trying to get the video of the Cordia from Ignition DVD on here but it's got gay copy protection on it so it won't work :(. I'm still trying though.
Try DVD fab decrypter and go from there :)

Cheers John. I got one this morning called DVD Decrypter, probably the same one. You can only rip sections as a whole, so I'm going to edit it using Sony Vegas Pro 8. I've ripped it and changed the file extension from vob to mpeg. If I get it up on YouTube I'll be sure to let everyone know :).
Ok, I've FINALLY figured it out. Took me hours to work out how to cut videos using Sony Vegas. Just figured out how to make it come out in high quality too (so the 'watch in high quality' button comes up on YouTube).
It's just under a GB so it's gonna take forever to upload. Once it's done I'll post the link.
That is a sweet ride but I really am not a fan of those mags. (N)

Ok all done, took 2 hours to upload. Managed to shrink it down to 45mb and still keep the same quality and size.
Enjoy!
Please comment and rate on my YouTube channel!!
Be sure to watch in High Quality by clicking the 'Watch In High Quality' button when on the YouTube page.

No worries :). Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. Took me bloody hours to do, around two hours just to learn how to use Sony Vegas, first time I'd ever used it and then had to learn how to tweak the settings so it came out in high quality.
It's a cool video so was determined to show it to you guys, had quite a few views so far. Half of them are from me mind you, lol.
nice vid mate! Very cool to see it again, I saw this quite a while ago! 8)
Hope they don't remove it from Youtube!
Cheers Steve. Me too, but there's quite a few other clips from Ignition DVDs on there of other cars so hopefully mine will stay there.
Nice work Scott. I also have the Ignition DVD (by default) lying around somewhere but now I don't have to find it lol....
I can relate so much to this dude in saying that there has been so much custom work, research as well as blood, sweat and tears poured into the build - I wouldn't forgive myself if I ever parted with it. I think my car will end up next to his in a shed somewhere under a carcover...
I also have people ask me the question, ''why a cordia''...''why front wheel drive''....all the time...

"because i can" is the best comeback to that... there is really no reply... why is it really any of their business... people who as the "why" questions havnt taken one for a zip through the hills...
as you guys would know i have the vr4 galant aswell... while a great car to drive it is in a different ball park to the coridia... much heavier... the cordia is just so light and easy to throw around... *shrug* i rather the galant for a long drive as it has cruise and just generally roomier but if the day comes that i have to choose between them the galant will be the one to go (erica wants to get a mazda 3 when we get back so the day is coming :suicide: )

I couldnt agree more, my other thing is, be different from the crowd when you go on a car cruise you can basically wager there will only be a handful of cordias if that
My car was the only cordia on display at small car sunday (Adelaide) last year. The year before, there was only one another (5th sin). That's the beauty; they're not that rare, but highly modified immaculate examples are - there are only a handful of people (including myself) that have been stupid enough to waste so much money on a cordia and if I had my time again, i'd have to say that i'd do thing a lot differently...with another car.
Agreed Brad................with the amount I have spent on the cordia I could have bought my house.....................twice over!

This thing will decimate all.......once I've put another fifteen grand into it!
Well I've spend about $10,000 on my cordia in the last 2 years, not that you'd really notice.... she still needs a VR4 engine installed, the body straightened, new paint, new suspension and interior.... not to mention intercooler, turbo and all the other gear.... and as I said, you wouldn't even notice by looking at it! 8)
Hey Brad,
Do you have that pic of my car from the Small car Sunday at Emmanuel college?
Hey Brad,
Do you have that pic of my car from the Small car Sunday at Emmanuel college?
I don't know whether it's just sheer coincidence or the fact that somehow you recognised the oval - the photo of my signature was actually taken at Immanuel College on Saturday. It was one of my old schools! :)
Anyhoo, here you go mate. It's not the best quality as it was scanned from a printed photo that's over 8 years old...!

Ahhhhh............thanks Brad, it's nice to remember the old days. 8)
so bitza has been a beast for a long time then.. 8) was that pre 63?
No Jamie,
I had a VR4 in it back then.
It was only a few cordia's that had the conversion done..............it gained ALOT of interest. 8)
cool... you truly are a pioneer
I hope my Cordia can enter shows when I'm done with the work I'm doing to it at present... Inspiring.

Only just!!! My car was in the workshop undergoing this conversion back in early 2000. Unfortunately funds were limited (as I was only 19 at the time)...and it's been a lot of engineering along with trial and error, being one of the guinea pigs!
lol.. you are aswell brad... both your cars are an inspiration to most of the comunity
EVO POWER you've got no mudflaps is that a prefomance mod. lol JK. Do you want a set? dont you like the way they look?
lol.. you are aswell brad...
Hehe...thanks mate! :D

I wasn't sure at the time when I had the car painted. I just wanted a real clean look with no badges and stickers. It probably would look better if I had retained to mudflaps and painted them the same colour as the bodywork. Anyway, the plan is the fit the fibremaster front and rear bars in the new year.
