TURBOCHARGER - Bypass TC05/TC06

TURBO - bypass a turbocharger (TC05 & TC06)

Often the question is asked, whether it is safe, or even possible to bypass the turbocharger in the event of turbo failure... The simple answer is "YES, it can be done, and it has been done"
If you don't have the money to buy another turbo, or need your car to get to and from work, but you have leaking oil seals externally, or internally and blowing blue smoke, you can drive your Cordia Turbo naturally aspirated...

Here's how to do it:

- Undo the centre (ring) bracket on the turbo housing
- Remove the compressor housing and centre-core (only the exhaust housing will remain)
- Make a blanking plate (8mm thick steel, 87mm diameter, with a 4mm bevel all the way around.)
- Attach your blanking plate against the big hole is in the exhaust manifold
- Fasten your Ring bracket back in place to secure the blanking plate.
- You will need to block off all oil lines for the turbo
- Re-route coolant lines (if applicable)
- You will need to make a custom crossover pipe to your Air Flow Meter

CAR SHOULD BE DRIVABLE, BUT THIRSTY AND WILL LACK POWER!!!

The reason that performance is significantly reduced, is due to the lower compression ratio of the engine, (7.6:1 for GSR) & (9.5:1 or 9.0:1 FOR GSL). Cordia GSR's use the turbocharger to aid in developing power, therefore the ratio need not be as high as the GSL non-turbo models. Bypassing the turbo will not be beneficial for the vehicle's powerband.
